it's just the most comfortable place to eat - no presence - all kinds of folks - everyone friendly.įood is so fresh, appealing, delicious and the prices hark back to the '80's. all the hospitality, service, ambiance and food that you remember form the past - and the process as well. I must say that the homemade warm brownie sundae was beyond delicious even though we had just eaten ourselves into oblivion.

she did trick them into thinking they each had a full serving. the savvy server, who told us she had 4 kids, was ingenious enough to serve half of the brownie sundae to each of the girls and do some filling with whipped cream and added colored sprinkles as well. Then, the "piece de resistance" - we ordered the brownie sunday to share among the adults and the girls insisted on their own. We had a variety of ordering - half, bbq chicken, full slab of ribs (that was shared by two of us) beans, slaw, sweet potato fries, wild rice, lemonade for the kids, a huge glass of iced tea, white wine and mother's milk (a local beer.) everything was perfect and delicious. the kids had to fight us off as we tried to trick them into letting us taste their food. the server - michelle - was very savvy and brought theirs out quickly to keep them busy.

It was a miserable rainy evening and as soon as we walked into the restaurant and smelled the aromas - we all cheered up. I hope (and do think) it will be better when we return! More We will try it again since we are new to the area. Serve a vegetable that's in season or readily available. Maybe offering the kids water and cornbread while we waited? (just a thought but it would have made our wait SO much better). Broccoli is super easy to get fresh year round. They have very little on the menu that doesn't have meat of some sort. The bad: We waited a really long time for a seat (granted, we were a decent sized group) but the hostess wasn't the best communicator. The manager (or owner) said "thank you" and "have a nice night" on our way out the door. I really like that they serve multiple things for kids. I like that they had a lot of sides to choose from. I love that they have sweet potatoes baked or fried. The good: I never had peanut slaw before and it was really good. Over the years the food at Fireside has seriously slipped, and with the exception of one or two pleasant waitresses in the dining room, the staff is unwelcoming, starting with a grim barmaid. Put some pizzazz into your food presentation. Suggestion to owner: You should be present to train, monitor and supervise your staff or hire someone to do so. And judging by the unappealing way the kitchen arranges main courses and sides, there's no management back there either. There's no front room manager at the Fireside supervising the sullen staff including a barmaid deep in conversation with what appear to be regulars while ignoring other diners. And get a supply of peppercorns so you can refill them. Suggestion to owner: Buy a case of pepper mills. Mediterranean Restaurants in Salt PointĪ restaurant serving steaks that has NO fresh pepper mills? And when you request one, the server briefly looks and comes back to say "we don't have any," with no apology.
